As you may be aware, we have had a number of fundraising events to support our Community Library. We have held 4 very successful Quiz nights; we attend all local events, for example, Iver Carnival, Apple Day and Richings Park Sports club open day. We help our volunteers in many ways, giving support and help where needed. The committee of local people meets regularly to think of ideas to support the library and have made some successful Grant applications. We have been trying very hard to find suitable premises for a Community Library in Iver village. FUNDRAISING We will be at Apple Day at Home Farm in Iver on Saturday the 17th October from 11.00am to 4.00pm and will have a Tombola, book and videos for sale and a Pirate Treasure Hunt. We always need items for the Tombola, please have a look around at home and drop them in at Cornerstone. There will be a Quiz night on Friday February 12th, 2010 in Iver Village Hall, so put the date in your diary now as tickets sell out very quickly! We will be advertising this in the New Year, look out for posters in the area. As you may know, the Community library is open at Cornerstone at 7 Wellesley Avenue. The library is run entirely by volunteers and it is free to borrow books. We rely on grants and donations to keep going, so please give generously. Coffee, tea and refreshments are always available at Cornerstone with friendly staff to help you find what you are looking for. We have recently received a large number of Large Print books which are available for borrowing now. We also have a large selection of good quality, recently published adult fiction books. The children’s section is well stocked with up-to-date story books, teenage fiction and junior non-fiction. We hold story times for the Under 5s at 2pm on Thursdays at the library in Cornerstone. Please come along, there are drinks and biscuits available. If you would be willing to spare some time to come and tell stories, please contact Fiona Gill on 01753 655611. We always need volunteers. If you have any time to spare – either an hour or two a week or you can give us occasional help, we would be glad to hear from you. Please contact Jackie Griffiths at Cornerstone on 01753 631144 or send an email to secretary@ivercommunitylibraries.org.uk. We look forward to seeing you either in the library at Cornerstone or at Apple Day. Regards Iver Community Libraries Committee |
